The 1950s or more commonly referred to in the abbreviated terms the "Fifties" or the "50s", was a decade that saw the majority of the world continue its recovery following the ending of World War II, aided by the post-World War II economic expansion. The fifties saw the emergence of a youth culture and was the decade of American Bandstand, soda parlours and hamburger joints led by Americans, these were probably 5-10 years away in the UK. None the less the 50s are remembered with a strange fuzzy feel by those who were around and it's an exciting theme for any costume party.
