From the release of the first film in 1977 Star Wars (later to be retitled Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope), Star Wars has become a world-wide epic space opera franchise. With a vast cannon of film works, which appear to go backwards and forwards in time, the films - and their spin-offs titles - have all been box office hits leading Star Wars to become a worldwide pop culture phenomenon. In addition to the film series, Star Wars has spawned into other media, including television shows, video games, books, comics, theme park attractions and themed areas, resulting in a significantly detailed fictional universe.
