Not everyone wants to wait until Halloween for an opportunity to come out of their shell and get creative with their fancy dress costumes. Both young and old alike enjoy the fun and excitement of a themed costume party and the fun begins when the invitation arrives so why not start planning your own family Under the Sea themed party for the summer?  With a huge selection of suitable fancy dress plus lots of costume accessories as well as decorations and tableware it's sure to be a huge success.

And the great thing is that any outfits you create now can also be worn as Halloween swings around again. Before you start creating your own outfit it’s worth getting any children’s costumes sorted out as for them it’s probably one of the most important aspects of the party. An Under the Sea theme provides you with options for anything to do with under the sea, from sea creatures, sunken pirates and the ever popular mermaid costume. These can be bought by searching your local fancy dress shop or for a bigger selection, the internet but creating your own will be a more affordable option.

There is nothing to stop you from taking your inspiration for your outfit design from anywhere and the internet proves itself to be invaluable in this respect, so you see, it is easy to come up with tons ideas for your own efforts. And who knows, you might discover that you have a hidden creative side which you can unleash on the project! Creating children’s costumes doesn't have to be a chore and it’ll certainly get you into the party spirit. For any little girl and some not so young, a mermaid costume will be a great idea for an under the sea theme.  None will be able to resist dressing up as a beautiful, sparkling mermaid be it as Disney’s Princess Ariel or any other. It is easy to find a shoal of mermaid costumes on-line but, obviously the branded outfits will cost a little more. Alternatively look out for instructions on how to create your own mermaid costume.  Finding something for a boy requires a little more imagination but with the popularity of the Pirates of the Caribbean films, any pirate costume will make him a fitting recruit for Davy Jones locker. Or, if you have a little more time, our personal favourite is to use a 50” balloon and cover the top half with papier-mâché, leaving a hole for the head and which, when dry, can be painted as a jelly fish and have long crepe paper strands glued around the bottom edge which creates a floating movement.

With a little imagination, this theme can prove to be very exciting for all ages and one way to get the most out of it is to get everybody involved in suggesting their costumes and then helping to create them – and this should include all of the adults too! For women, a mermaid costume can become a sea nymph or a sexy siren looking to lure even more souls to meet with Davy Jones! Gorgeous-looking costumes don’t need to be restricted to those living on land!
