In normal use by those with hair, a wig cap will hide your existing hair and will prevent it protruding from under the wig. A wig cap will also ‘flatten’ your hair so that it will be compact and secure under your wig and providing structure and improving the overall appearance of the wig. Again, there is a chance that the head will feel a little warmer when wearing your wig cap.
It might be useful to look at how best to put a wig cap on;
If you have longer hair this should be twisted and put up. Dampen the hair slightly and comb it through and pull it into a pony tail at the nape of the neck. Do not use and band or fastenings but simply use kirby grips to secure the end of the ponytail towards the crown. Make sure that any loose hair strands along the sides and then work these into the ponytail. The idea of this process is to make the look flat and you might find it advisable to create several ponytails to spread it out and prevent there being too much bulk in any one place.
With the cap itself, position the wig cap at the point where your front natural hairline would be. Pull the wig cap over your head, stretching the cap out over your head until it sits comfortably and secure at the nape of the neck. Pull the sides of the wig cap down so that they are behind your ears, the aim is to have the vast majority of the hair will already be covered by the cap. The aim of the cap is to have none of your natural hair showing, so tuck any remaining hair beneath the cap working from the front around the sides to the nape. The cap should feel secure and snug, but not tight and you can reposition it until it’s comfortable. When you are happy that the wig cap is correctly positioned, you are ready to put your wig on.
So if you’re worried about wearing a wig and you want to make sure you achieve the best look with your wig, try a wig cap.
