Sent out of the cities to the relative safety of the countryside, nearly a million school children were evacuated away from the bombing campaign waged against us. This girl's wartime costume is sure to bring back a mixture of memories to those old enough to remember those events and it should serve as a poignant reminder of some of the consequences of WWII. In our historical children's fancy dress, our Evacuee Girl costume comprises of a short sleeved floral dress which is trimmed with olive green faux buttons, belt and cute collar around the high rounded neckline that was the fashion of the time. Included with the outfit, and probably the most evocative element is the buff coloured label and the Air Raid Precautions satchel which would have contained a gas mask and which would have been worn close to the body at all times. This wartime fancy dress for girls is completed with a matched olive green beret styled hat. This is a stylised costume and is ideal for school productions and book weeks.
